Wow, what a shit storm overnight :s
WeeJohn is right about Dyno's reading differently around the world. Ive always been a big believer in mph being the true reveal of horsepower but Ill admit that 123mph is high for my power so Ill explain what the cars been through.
Wow!! This GT must be liiiiiiiiiiiiiiight!! 123mph?!
This man nailed it early on. Ive always thought my GT was light. I corner weighted it at under 800kg and was happy. After the floods the car had to be disassembled to almost nothing and I was very selective what I put back in. I also took the chance to change the windows to lexan and take weight out of anywhere I can. Ive also dropped 20kg of body weight since the last time I went this fast. Next time I get the scales, Ill throw the GT on. Even through Ive taken a lot out, I have put a half cage in since the car last went this fast.
Glad the cars back from the dead and Great result!
Was this not intially a focused drag car so I would assume the setup is very well honed even if it has recently been setup for circuit
Also correct. Many years ago this was a drag/street car and I spent a few years on research and development with suspension, gearing (through tire sizes), different tires and different turbos/fuels. The circuit setup is actually not too far off what I used to run for drags. I used to swap out the rear springs for heavier ones and change the rear tires for skinner ones with high pressure. (had semi slicks with 20psi in them this time). I also changed the wheel allignment and swapped front tires.
So about 3 years ago I finally got down to a 11.2 @ 124mph. This was with around 287hp atw (all my power figures have been at the wheels) high comp engine, on 109 fuel and nitrous with a large garret turbo. The following year I ran full weight doors and hatch but this time I had around 330hp with a low compression high boost engine + nitrous, big cams, a smaller hks turbo and toluene and ran 11.4's @ 127mph and ran a few 11.6's at over 129mph. You can start to see the effects of weight and horsepower here. Just a few months ago I ran a 12,5 @ 105mph with a td04 and 185hp with full weight doors and hatch
Now Im running over 240hp (without nitrous) on a smaller vf34 turbo and high comp 5e on e85 + stock cams and the result has been a nice power curve and bucket loads of torque. The cars previous best 60' was a 1.6 but would run consistent 1.8's. Through removing the weight its now consistent 1.7's no matter what I did. Its also chirping the tires through all gears now too. As for the track. Yes its a pretty decent track but this was a crappy mid week street car event so there was chunks of crappy rubber all over the track
I am tempted to throw some more boost in the engine, some more setup in the car and remove some more weight to go back for a 10 but ever since that 11.2, the engines have been stacking up. (mainly from circuit racing). We have
a big event in august. I might give it a crack then.
I find all this kind of funny though. If I put up 400hp, no one would say anything. I put up the real reading and people doubt the power and even the time. The dyno is just a tuning tool, not a dick measuring contest.
Cheers
